Replying here in case anyone is following along – we figured out that these subscribers may have gotten their “newsletter status” custom field set to “active” PRIOR to turning on the evergreen newsletter.
Since the trigger for the newsletter is when the “newsletter_status” custom field CHANGES to “active”… these people never entered the automation because they already HAD that custom field value at that point.
To fix it, she can clear the custom field values for those 5 subscribers and then re-set them as “active”, which will trigger them to enter into the evergreen newsletter.
